mobo (this is a good mobo for the price)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R iX58 Socket 1366 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

gfx card (same model, just a different brand and cheaper. unless your friend really likes the sapphire)
HIS HD 5770 1GB GDDR5l DVI HDMI Display Port Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer

ram (why did he choose such expensive ram? this will work for him)
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Memory CL9(9-9-9-24) for i7 motherboards - Ebuyer

psu (the psu he chose; 700w for £40 = POS. get him something from a better know brand)
Ocz Fatal1ty Series 550w Psu - Uk - Ebuyer

hdd (dont get him a raptor. wd's caviar black drives offer similar speed at a much lower price)
Western Digital WD7501AALS 750GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM Caviar Black - Ebuyer

if he's willing to spend more money, it would be better to get an ssd
Intel X25-m Solid-state Drive, 80gb Sata Ii 2.5, Mlc, High Performance, 34nm Product Line - Ebuyer
as an os/programs drive and a seperate hdd for storage.

Thank you for your thoughts, i will consider changing the PSU/RAM and the GPU. As for the hard drives, i'll see if he has the money!
