Overall the build looks good but there are a few areas you could save some money

If you don't plan on overclocking or running crossfire you could save some money buy going with a p43 motherboard.

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Windows 7 will be released in October so I wouldn't spend any money on XP now. The Windows 7 release candidate is free and is good until march of next year at which point you could buy a copy of 7. You can download the RC here.

If you friend plans on gaming it might be worth spending a little extra money to get a hD 4870 since the Hd 4670 would struggle at 1680x1050.

Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H487FN512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Cases are largely personal preference but if you aren't set on that Raidmax I highly recommend the Antec 300.
