I currently have an ECS KA2 MVP mobo with a 4200 x2. The motherboard is dying and if I am going to replace it I figure I may as well get a new processor too. My question is simple, what is the cheapest mobo/proc combo you guys can suggest that woudl show me a performance boost over what I have now.

Edit: I do not care if it is Intel or AMD.

Intel Pentium Dual-Core e5200 with a Biostar P43 board

or

Biostar 780g-M2+ with 5400+ Black Edition

(First is better though)

I have a ASUS M2Ne with and AMD X2 5600+ 2.8Ghz. You can get bothe from newegg for around $200 - $250. I have had both for a year now and they are real troopers.

Ugh, my computer completely crapped out on me this morning and now I have no choice but to stick with my current AMD proc. Why does it seem like all of the AMD mobos are Micro?

Thank you Trotter, I can never seem to find form factor search filters on newegg.

Its called Power Search, then you scroll down to form factor, and select ATX.

I learned that when I wanted to build my first Micro ATX build and couldn't find a good M-ATX motherboard without seeing side to side how much ATX boards kicked their arses.
