ya.. pre-builds have angered me too.. they come with all that extra crap on it... like a bunch of aol installers and stupid compaq programs.... and its like nearly impossibly to delete everything thats compaq..... i have a compaq myself, very similar to yours buyxgmistake... only mine is the Compaq SR1650NX..... i was happy with it until i came to this forum... and actually learned, i hate how bios is locked, because i wanted to try and overclock... and the cooling isnt exactly great in a prebuild.. and the psu is just terrible...

Current Build:
Intel 3770k @ 4.4 GHZ | Galaxy GTX 770 SLi | 16 GB G.Skill Sniper | ASrock z77 Extreme4
2xSamung 840pro 128GB in Raid | 2x1TB Seagate | Antec 750 Watt GamerSeries
Media Build:
Intel Core i3 3220 | Galaxy GTX 650 | 8 GB Corsair Vengeance | ASrock B75M | Samsung 840 120GB

Going with the ati because if I was going to buy an Nvidia on my budget it would be a 6600 GT w/128 MB where the x1600pro is 256 mb card and has great reviews too. I think by looking at the two the 1600pro beats the 6600GT. Also I hear that ati cards run very well on the Nvidia chipset.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 MOBO
MSI Radeon x1600pro 256mb
Patriot pc3200 2x512mb Ram
Aspire ATX 520W PSU
WD Corsair SE SATA 150 80gb HD
Cooler Master Centurion 5 (black/blue) case
