Dude get the 9800 GT and you will notice a HUGE jump in performance, even if it is a little over priced.

the 9800GT for $99 is not a bad deal. of course you could get a 4850 for that but he would then need a better PSU. meaning then he would be spending more than just $99.

chepest 4850 on the egg $94,

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

+

PSU, $50 Newegg.com - Antec Basiq BP500U 500W Continuous Power ATX12V Version 2.01 Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

= $145

or XFX 9800GT for $99

so it all really boils down to how much you want to spend.

Thanks for the replies everyone, always big help

Is the 4850 a huge jump over the 9800 GT? I'm not trying to max anything out @ 1680x1050 just make it look best at a lower resolution

If the performance difference is huge I'll try and get the 145 dollar set up if it's not I guess the 9800 GT? I've read even the 4830 beats the 9800 GT

the 4830 and 9800GT are really about equal. but the 4850 is a good bit faster. it couldnt hurt to get the 4850 and better PSU especially if you plan on upgrading your rig in the future.
