or you could go this route..

XFX 7600GT 256meg DDR3 560MHz Dual DVI TV-Out SLI Ready Model: PV-T73G-UDL7 $339.00

ALBATRON KM51G-754 NVIDIA nForec4 Chipset PCIx Intergrated Video Audio and LAN $135.00

$total: 474

this way you can get pci-express, but not have to change your cpu. best bet, of course, would be to change the cpu as well, and get a socket 939 mobo.

I could have made my newely built system on PCI-E, but as the motherboard chipset was better than PCI-E versions, so I went for the AGP, as I wanted a new card as well, so X1600 was the latest among 7800 as well, to support, so as if you are looking for newer VGA card on AGP, then you'll remain with 2 choices, X1600 or 7800, in which 7800 of course remains the gamer card, which I am not. I wanted image quality, not the data bandwidth.

Though just for curosity, i'll as well buy a 7800 to see as if it worked better than ATi. sometimes it becomes very difficult to choose between things.
