I have an NAS Drive on my network with a built-in FTP server. I think we are getting either power surges or a flicker from time to time that resets the server to "off." My solution is to get a battery back-up (UPS) and attach my modem/router and NAS to it. Do I need software for it to run? I keep seeing software CD's that come with them and have read some reviews about crappy Vista Drivers.

I have them only on a power brick right now protecting them from surges.

I was thinking this would do the trick: Newegg.com - APC BE750BB 750 VA 450 Watts 10 Outlets UPS - Retail

no, the software is only if you want your computer to shut down if the battery backup detects a power failure. It will work fine without it.

Ya, i just have a 650va backup for the intermittent hiccups and power filtering. The only reason you have to have the software is if you want the battery to shut your machine down in the event that the power is out longer than the battery will hold.
