Default atx and micro atx

other than its size, is there a difference between the atx and micro atx mobos?

Nope. Just a different form factor. They use the same connectors and everything, so not really much a problem with cross compatibility between the two. Just remember that the case has to correspond, but and mATX motherboard will work in an ATX case, but an ATX mobo will not work in a mATX case.

The size is the main difference. Usually you will find less expansion slots and connectors on a mATX board just because you cannot fit that many on it.

MicroATX tend to have more heat issues due to everything being closer together (less air circulation).

if you have to option, go ATX.

echoing what the others said:

1. smaller form factor
2. less features due to smaller form factor

they're great for case mods
