Default ATX 12V 4-pin connector on intel boards

I have just bought a new Albatron PX865PEC Pro Mainboard with an Intel Celeron D 2.53 GHz socket 478 processor. I have found a 4-pin plug. Could someone please tell me what this does and how it benefits the working of the computer.
