I know the nvidia 8500,8600 are expensive for how they perform but how does the new atis perform? are they worth it?

nVidia is always one step ahead of ATI in performance. If you're planning to do some hard-core gaming, look into the 8800GTS/GTX/Ultra. The 8500 and 8600 is only for web surfing, photoshopping, photo-editing, video editing, encoding, decoding, and etc.

HD 2600XT DDR4 only strong as 8600GT.

Mid range DX10 cards only good for HD anyway. And for HD get a 690G or 7xxx motherboard.

As for DX10 gaming though, the 2600 did shine more than the 8600GTS.

i think you pretty much get the same amount of bang for your buck though on cards from both companies with similar performance.

How much do you know about ATI's 9000 series vs the Nvidia FX 5000 series?

or X2900. I prefer the 8800, but the X2900 is no slouch. It will often beat the 8800 GTS's and sometimes the GTX's
One of the things I don't like is its performance with anti-aliasing

Gaming too. I believe it would perform better than the X800/6800, and may be close to a 7800/7900.

Thanks, Apok.

The 2900 is a great card, and it continues to improve as the drivers improve. Seems neither NVIDIA or ATI can get their drivers right on release anymore.

I have no complaints on my X1950XT, though.
