Default Asking for a friend

My friend has this following setup:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 754
Biostar Redfox NF325-A7
PQI 2GB DDR400
Inno3D GeForce FX5200 128MB 128 bit AGP8X
80GB Seagate SATA
40GB Maxtor SATA
Asus DVD-ROM
Sony DVD-RW Dual-Layer
400W PSU with 20A on 12v

Now, he is planning to get Inno3D GeForce 7800GS. Will that improve his gaming performance? Will the PSU be able to handle it? If not, will 6600GT do well also? He likes to play:

Counter-Strike
Rome Total War
Microsoft Flight Simulator (like me ^_^)
Command and Conquer Generals

Will he be able to play those in medium to high settings with smooth gameplay? Or at least medium settings and smooth play?

He's not planning a new system. Just an upgrade.

Yes, it will radically improve his graphics.

All of the 7800GS listed on NewEgg require a 350W PSU (except for BFG's overclocked one, which is 400W)... so he's good.

With a 7800GS, he ought to be able to run those games on medium to high no problem.

I had a 7800GS for a while... ran BF2, FEAR, D3, etc... on high settings with no lag... FEAR gave me some hickups when I tried to go to the Ultra setting, but you'll be good... it's a good card that'll last him some time as well
