Hey, I'm a noobie at this, but I have a motherboard that supports DDR266 PC2100 RAM, but can I upgrade to something faster but still have it work at it's maximum potential? Say if I bought some DDR400 PC 3200 would it work at 400 Mhz? Both my motherboard and CPU supports up to 533 FSB

The new RAM would work at the speed of the older RAM, but it would still work. It is better to buy the newer RAM, because even though it will work the same as the older RAM, there will be sticks available in larger capasities and as the older RAM becomes rare the price will rise above the price of the newer RAM.

if yotu bought pc3200 for a pc2100 mobo the pc3200 will downclock to pc2100 speeds
