Another Dual-Channel Question

I see these threads all over the internet but none clear up my confusion.

I have an Acer Aspire 4520 notebook with only 1GB (512 x 2) of ram and I want to upgrade without paying too much. I planned to take both modules out and install one 2GB module to keep the other slot open for the future, but did not know if this would cause problems b/c of the dual-channel support.

Would it be better to install one 2GB and leave the other open or to install two 1GB modules?

Two sticks in dual channel are faster than one stick.
Bandwidth is increased with two sticks.

One stick would work fine though, if that's what you want.
