when buying one, does it mater about the interface?

i assume it does... but i know nothing about it...

so, what do i want?

System Specs:
Dell Dimension 4600 Off-The-Shelf

upgrades:
2gb Patriot signature ram (O.O)
FSP 400W PSU
speakers
mouse

u can look up all the specs for my comp minus upgrades by searching dell dimension 4600... i assume

but what does the interface mean? how it plugs in?

im sort of noob at upgrading harddrives, so please enlighten me

by the way, is This good? will it interface properly with my computer?

thanks in advance,
Phate

Phate,

I looked up the specs on the Dell 4600. The one i found had this to say: Hard Drive 1 x 80GB - standard - DMA/ATA-100 (Ultra)

The interface for the Hard drive is "ATA 100". The hard drive you picked is SATA. this is NOT cpmpatible.

I would recommend Western Digital or Segate Hard drives. this one is an ata 100 interface and should work nicely in your rig. :)

Phate, to answer your question......

IDE on the left, SATA on the right... Both the Data AND the Power cables are different on the 2 different drives.

We'll see how long I can leech the pic for ya. :D
