Default About CPU

I am a gamer and I am just wondering if dual core 3.0Ghz or quad core 2.66Ghz is good for gaming? And how high can this quad core be overclocked to?
I want to play games like assassin's creed, crysis, call of duty 4

If you are just going to play the game, get a dual core, if you want to a lot of other stuff at the same time, while playing the game, Quad core.
