If you can't find out what case she has, try to measure for how much room a video card would have.

there's not really a fixed budget I know of. It's basically..cheapest possible way to get performance on par with the 8800GTS if it does turn out the GPU is on deaths door.
She had a bit of an upgrade recently that I'm not 100% on. Not sure on mobo, but she's got 4Gb DDR3 ram at 1333mhz (so cheap stuff) and a core I3 processor..not sure quite which one.
I advised her on parts out of the offerings this place had at the time so she's got quality components. PSU won't be an issue, Corsair HX520W. Case some Gigabyte thing which cost around £80 at the time, it's a large full tower so room won't be a big concern.
