So since im trying to be cost effective i figurd id buy the 8600 because it seems like its not that far below the 8800, however everyone is telling me the 8600 is crap. Ive been thinking well maybe I should get the 8800, and then I can play Crysis at that point even though thats not what my aim was for getting a computer that would still be pretty awesome to say I had a computer that could play crysis on midrange settings.
Honestly I never thought it could happen given my price range $500-$800 but I am surprised looking at some of the deals you can get at newegg.com...
umm anyways what im wondering now is why no 1 recommends or likes the 8600 series... it is like $100+ less then the 8800 which is why i was interesed in it and i know 8600 supports most games... so what makes it so that its no 1s choice around here? is it because the 8800 is the new thing and theres no reason to buy something that is somewhat "outdated" ?

Newegg.com - Open Box: SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Supported VIVO Video Card

x1900GT bit older, slower than the x1950GT but performance is a ton better than 8600GTS.

@ $80, you can't go wrong

you can get a x1950pro for #130
NCIXUS.com - Buy Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 575MHZ PCI-E 256MB 1.38GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I TV-OUT Lite Retail Video Card - 11095-01-20R.

somewhat noticable better performance than the x1900GT

X1900GT is actual faster than the X1950GT, believe it or not

where are u getting this info, why would they sell a faster card for $50 less then there next card in the line thats slower.

im not saying your wrong i just doubt they would do that.

The 8600 series sucks, period. An "outdated" x1900 card still is more powerful and cheaper than it. Just take our advice.

I have the 8600GT which I got for £69 a while ago, I can play anything I throw at it just not on the highest settings..i.e I can play COD4 at 1440x900 on good settings can't remember any exact details. The 8600GT also overclocks well, I have it stable at 610/840 from 540/800 so its not bad fora budegt card, I still need to try Crysis on it but apart from that its a good card. However cards such as the X1950 are more powerful within the same price range. If you check out the 3rmark06 list in the overclocking section that will give you a good idea of all the different configurations which people have and which are doing the best.
