Default 64 bit or 32 bit? Dual core? What do i want?

I'm going to be buying a new computer with the free vista upgrade..I want to know should I go 64 bit dual core, 64 bit single core, or 32 bit dual core? It will be used for some gaming and visual studio mostly.

64-bit dual core definitely, since you're a developer, you may need to be able to develop for dual-core, also for 64-bit. Plus they're future-proof.

Also, try to go for a Core 2 Duo, they're great for compiling big projects.

hmmmmmm..... If you can get yourself a Intel Itanium2 Dual Core 1.66ghz it would be best since it is one of intels only "true" 64bit processors

Itaniums aren't x86 compliant, however, and support for Windows for that stopped essentially when Windows x64 Pro came out.

If you don't mind using Linux, they're a great choice, but only if you need a large amount of processing power (like for a LARGE server).
