Ok ive been thinking about this and ive found some good deals on newegg. Im gonna wimp out and go with the 6800GS ($209) and a 3500+ Athlon 64 ($201)and a mobo that supports em ($79)

$209 6800 GS
$201 3500+ Athlon 64
$79 Motherboard
$122 1 Gig pc3200
+___
$611 Barely overbudget (minus shipping/tax) but whatever.

This is my proposal based on what you suggested and what i read. I went with the lower gfx card and proc so i wouldnt need the extra power 520 watt and i could get another gig of ram.
Does it sound good to you?

go with that mobo and downgrade to a 3200+ for 166 dollars as you can OC it to 3500+ speeds, then with that 40 dollars upgrade to this

its perfect

i would go with the 3700+ because of more L2 cache its double of what the 3500+ has

but the performance increase isn't a whole bunch comparatively speaking... that's why the 3700 is only rated 3700 versus a 3500. You can overclock a 3200 to 3700 speeds really easily.

actually i dont need 2 1/2 gigs of ram, instead ill go with the 3700+ and the biostar mboard and the 6800GS which totals around 560 (tax+shipping added there) and then i have some left over to get this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440
So in the end these are the comp stats
AMD Athlon 64 San Diego 3700+
eVGA nVIDIA 6800GS
1.5 gigs of corsair value select pc3200 ram
450 watt raid max /w ATX steel case
BIOSTAR NF4UL-A9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138249)
1 SATA 120gb HD and 1 PATA 60gb drive
XP PRO

the total comes out to about 625 most likely (thats with tax and shipping)
the only problem i can see is that the 6800GS is outta stock right now, so im praying on that one

Why would you go with that mboard when you can go with this for the same price?? I give up...

the only difference that i can see is the more expensive one with more negative feedback does not support the athlon 64 x2, which would be a benefit for upgrading in the future, also something that doesnt make a real difference is the one im suggesting's north bridge VGA supports nForce4 "ULTRA" which yours doesnt. Something isnt making sense to me here, someone please explain why the cheaper one seems better than the other one. Is biostar a bad mobo company or what? IM SO CONFUESD Another thing i found out is that my brother works at CompUSA so he can get an employee discount so im having him check on the stuff that i can get for lower prices right now
