how do you get setups like this to work with only 2 video cards.
I mean, where do they all plug in!?

2 triple headed will allow you to manage the 6 screen one and for the 8 screen you could use crossfire with 4 signal splitters. After 18 monitor setups is where it starts to get difficult on a standard Atx board

Why is it like six grand? Six 24" monitors can be had for as low as $1,500~$1,700.

Get an evga UV Plus.

Can chain 6 screens at once plus your vid cards.

Crossfire 3870x2's would run 8 monitors assuming you got the ones with 4 dvi ports each.
