Default $500 budget build for friend

Friends wants to buy a $500-600 dollar computer from walmart...I'm trying my best to talk him into going DIY over pre-built. He's being stubborn though. He said if I can get parts for $500 he'll think about it.

I put this system together:

Newegg.com - Pioneer Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 40X CD-R 32X CD-RW 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners
cd drive

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
HDD

Newegg.com - XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
video card

Newegg.com - PNY XLR8 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
RAM

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
mobo

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
PSU - case combo

Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit for System Builders - Operating Systems
vista

Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E6300 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
E6300

It's hovering at like $639 with shipping right now. Going to go with a 4770 over 4850 and that'll shave $20 off. He might not need a HDD so minus another $70. But it's still coming in at like $530. Anyway to cheapen it up a tad without sacrificing much? No specifics..nvidia, ati, intel , amd...doesn't matter. If it'll shave a bit off to go with an amd duel core/mobo setup just give some suggestions.

thanks

EDIT: switched out E7400 for a E6300 and cut off another $13....sitting at $626

You could drop the cpu to a e5200 to save $22.

thanks for the reply puddle. He said he can go $600 so after dropping the 4850 to a 4770 it'll be at $605...should be good enough

I find that money talks more to people than specs.

Show him how cheaply you could build a $600 wal-mart PC.

could save 100$ if you get windows 7 and put that towards other parts or just save it.
