I am planning to purchase a 300gb external hard disk (external exclosure + HDD) - IDE

I was wondering does Samsung produce reliable hard drives compared to Seagate/Western Digital/Maxtor?

To be honest, theyre pretty much all the same, the only name I would go against is Maxtor, as I have had 4 HDDs go wrong from them! Samsung are good aswell, yes but if you can afford the Seagate, go for it as they are the best drives I have experienced

Hope this helps

Yes, I thought everyone has had nothing but problems with Maxtor?

Worst harddrive manufacturers ever. :amazed:

I have a 300GB disk (Maxtor) which is about 1 year old. Works fine. I had hard disks from all brands die on me in the past.

Ah, at last people who agree with me! Yes i have a number of friends who swear by maxtor, but i have an 80GB 6Y080L0 drove that has had to be RMAd 5 times (works out it costs maxtor $40 each time it is RMAd:)) , and i have had 4 other maxtor HDDs that have all just died out of warranty! Seagate and WD are the best manufacturers that are around, the others like Hitachi and Samsung are good, but not on par with WD and Seagate!
