ok over the past few weeks i've been looking at building a pc but not looking in depth at anything i was looking at so i been looking in depth at 3 separate builds that suit what i am looking for

now i'm stuck between cost, proformance and life span

the 3 builds i came up with is

build 1

mobo - gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6
cpu - intel E8400
memory - 4gb ( 4 x 1gb stripes ) patriot 800mhz
gpu - radeon hd 3850 256mb

cost - £437 with 1 gpu, £588 with 2 and a new psu

build 2

mobo - MSI P35 Platinum LGA
cpu - intel Q9450
memory and graphics same as build 1

cost £459 with 1 gpu, £609 with 2 and a new psu

build 3

mobo - ECS A77OM AMD770+ SB600
cpu - AMD Phenom 2.3ghz
gpu - 8800 gts 512mb
memory same as build 1

cost £448, no need for new psu and hasent got a second pci-e

now the thing is i am leaning towards build 2 seen it has the quad core i would like

just so every one knows i'm not overclocking and i am looking at playing games at mid to high settings

option 2 but get a better 3d card...at least the 512mb 3850...also you might want to choose some better memory if you are going to be overclocking

Newegg.com - OCZ ReaperX HPC 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

This is some VERY good memory...I'll probably be switching to it myself in a short while. I have seen it do 1000mhz with 1T timings...which is freakin fast! Nearly 11gb sec bandwidth!

Check it! These are also only the 6400s so I'm sure the PC2 8000s are even better

thanks guys

i will not be overclocking but i might change to OCZ after i seen a few prices in shops near me, newegg is good but i'm in the uk so not that good

1 question, am i right in thinking i can put 2 512mb 3850 cards in crossfire, the ait website said the 256mb was good for it but if the 512mb is ok to i'll go for them

if no ocing then i would get the amd build, 10% slower than the q6600 and a ton cheaper as well.

But that directx10.1 thing i just found out about makes me want to recommend the 3850's and 3870's....

oh and darksideleader, q6600 was not in his choices...and it is not a ton lot cheaper...
