240-pin ram slot

my motherboard (biostar tx 790gx 128 mobo) says it supports am3 processors and it has 240-pin ram slots. if im not mistaken, am3 is supporting ddr3 ram right? does that mean i can put ddr3 into my mobo and it will work?

You mean TA series? Biostar doesn't have TX. The only 790gx board that supports DDR3 is the TA790GX A3+. But no, your motherboard can't run DDR3.
