HJT says this is a service. I have gone through a dozen complete scans of three different virus checkers (Malware, Avira, and Webroot), plus the AVG cleanup tool, deleted all references after a search of Windows Explorer and the registry, AND have disabled this "service" in msconfig. Yet still it keeps reappearing.

My machine is also reverting to a series of pointers to "go.microsoft.com" after the HJT fixer.

My modem is working and the connection is fine (I am using wireless on an old laptop at the moment) and my FTP program uploads and downloads beautifully.

But some bugger has interfered with all browser functionality (Firefox - my default - plus IE and I even launched the dormant Opera which responded beautifully for about 15 seconds before "Error - Cannot connect to remote server.")

Latest (of probably 50) logs here:

Thoughts? And thanks. Have lost nearly all week.

What ecactly happens when you launch IE? You get the same error using all browsers?

Have you gone thru my guide yet?

Dearest, the same thing happens in each of the browsers - error loading page. Firefox is my default, IE can't load, even Opera. On Tuesday I could reboot either the computer or reset the modem, and I was back in business for a while. Not so much on Thursday, and today I'm completely hosed.

I haven't gone through your list, but I did do a full afternoon on someone else's detailed instructions at TechSpot.

Since I am now unable to browse at all on the affected computer, I will have to download everything to this cranky old laptop and FTP them one by one.

But by golly - I'll do it.

Unless you have any other inspiration tonight, I'll get through your list and see you back here tomorrow (or Monday, not sure about your schedule).

Hugs and chocolate milk, O.

Osiris, I have downloaded all the programs to this clunky laptop, then FTP's them to a website, then FTP downloaded them onto my desktop computer (the affected one). Luckily, the FTP connection is solid as a rock (again, my virus is only prevented all browsers from connecting).

Trouble is, I can't update the database in AVG - I tried, but again, the connection failed. Am running the scan now in any case...but having just downloaded the program, how much is my version of AVG at a disadvantage without being able to update?

THanks, more soon.

OKey doke: progress report.

Have uninstalled all my other virus software (Malware, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avira, and disabling Webroot), on the advice of AVG. Then scanned whole computer. Nothing found.

Then ran MSConfig Cleanup. According to your Tech doc, I am supposed to click "Select All" and Clean, but I am getting this: "There are no disabled startup items in MSConfig."

What to do now?
