Right click and windows explorer has stopped working.

Whenever i right click a folder/exe or sometimes even in the background i get "Windows explorer has stopped working" "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", this started a few weeks back out of no where, here's some more info on the problem.

I've scanned my computer with 5 different anti-virus software.

I've cleaned my registry of all things DRM/Securom.

I went back to a system restore point and still had the problem.

I did a system repair via the Vista CD and still had the problem.

I would be able to live with this problem if i didn't have to right click somethings to run as administrator, because of this problem i am unable to even start most games/apps.

After looking around for a bit i ended up here, and from the looks of it i think you guys might be able to save me!

probably not an infection.
Go to Programs and Features in the control panel and get rid of anything you don't need. If you don't know what something is, google it.
run ccleaner for both temp files and registry issues.
run windows update until it says there aren't any more important updates (don't worry about language packs etc)
check event logs if you're still having a problem.

Oh, also in the control panel is "Problem Reports and Solutions" MS may have identified the issue and given you a solution.

Well folks, i woke up this morning to see that everything is back to normal...for now...I run CCleaner every 2 days or so, but I'm gonna start using it a lot more i think, thank you so much for replying, one last question though, what could of made this all happen to begin with? when i look it up online every person says the same thing, DRM/Securom/Virus, but i don't have any of those.

Once again, thanks for the help, I'm so happy i finally found a professional forum with people who don't just say "lul u shudnt uf dwnladz pronz lolol" or some crap like that.

It's hard to tell what causes it. Do you have special drivers for your mouse or generic? Have you tried uninstall/reinstall them or updating the drivers? Maybe even test a different mouse that uses different drivers?

Ugh i spoke to soon, it started back up again! I went into a folder and did a right click on the background to arrange files and i got the error again, now i can't right click anything without this happening now, also something new that i noticed, windows doesn't log this error at all, it doesn't show up on any error report.

And nope nope, i don't have any special drivers for my mouse or my keyboard.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks again, i really really hope i can fix this without having to reinstall all of windows.

what programs do you have running in the background?

You might try creating a new profile and seeing if the error happens in the new profile also.

Yep yep i updated windows fully and ran CCleaner, as for things in my background, I only have a few things with Explorer that seem to be running at the moment, such things like audio mixers/G15 LCD Panel manager, things that have never been a problem before, however i will end everything that i don't need and report back if the problem still happens.

Since my last post I've ran CCleaner a whole bunch in and out of safe mode, uninstalled a bunch of random things i don't need, and repaired windows with the CD yet again, but I've yet to see if it even fixed it haha, been busy...now the moment of truth....testing now..Well...I'm able to right click things now, but the moment i click on any of the options in the right click menu, it goes and then gives me the error, so I'm able to right click again, and I'm able to use the things in the right click menu now, buuuuuut i still get the error.
