Hi peeps, I've got a crazy malware issue with my gf's lappy, hoping someone can help. I can usually sort these problems out just using the usual software and Osiris' Removal Guide, but this problem is worse than I've ever seen.

Both FF and IE have been hijacked, so they redirect to malicious sites (stopzilla.com, internetsecurityexamine.com etc) when you try to go to say, free.avg.com or superantispyware.com.

The other symptom is that I can't install or run most of the software that usually helps me! AVG 8 was fine and I updated it from files dled on another pc. Spybot installs but won't run (shows in task manager as a process, but nothing else). Superantispyware installer and smitfraudfix encounter errors and have to close and combofix does the same as spybot.

I have run HJT from the exe file on a CD as opposed to installing it, and here's the log:

Hope someone can help!

CCleaner and cleanup are fine.
Smitfraudfix as described in my first post.
*Vundofix - haven't tried yet.
*MBAM - haven't tried yet.
Combofix as described above.
*Trojan Remover - haven't tried yet.
AVG - installs and runs fine, but won't dl updates. Scan found 4 items and deleted/healed them before above HJT scan.

And I haven't tried any Boot CDs or anyof the list at the end apart from Avira and Spyware Doctor.

(*I'll try these now.)

Tried the three apps above. Vundofix runs but finds nothing, MBAM does the same as Combofix and Spybot.

Trojan Remover has installed and has found: C:\windows\system32\drivers\TDSSmqlt.sys (disabled by renaming).

Two reboots later and Combofix runs!!

I'll go through all the steps in the guide again and post back.

Thanks Osiris, I guess your guide is pretty definitive if you follow it properly!

Combofix deleted three files: c:\documents and settings\user\local settings\application data\nwffnuw.dat, nwffnuw_nav.dat and nwffnuw_navps.dat.

SUPERAntiSpyware has been scanning for 20 mins now and only found 17 tracking cookies and both browsers appear to be un-hijacked.

I'm going to keep going with the other apps, just to make sure, but I think we're out of the woods.

I'll post back the results, but I may be some time! :)
