My IE homepage keeps being hijacked at random times while surfing. The page that is being displayed is http://www.horseserver.net/1.html
At the same time Windows\System32\ysbinstall.exe attempts to access the internet. (Norton informs me of this)
How can I stop this happening?
Many thanks in advance for helping a newbie out.

I've followed the instructions on the link above. Adaware and Spybot have not found anything.
I ran the online scan at Bitdefender and it found the following:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ysbinstall.exe: infected with Trojan.Downloader.IstBar.GV
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ysbinstall.exe: Disinfection failed.

C:\Documents and Settings\DOM\Local Settings\Temp\tmpA.tmp=>(Upx): infected with Trojan.PornDialer.BP
It didn't say whether this last one was deleted or not.
bitdefender also found loads of quarantined items from adaware and spybot.

I have tried to access and download Coolweb shredder but the bandwidth level has been exceeded for ages. i'll keep trying it though.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the logÂ…..

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dminstm] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dminstm.exe

Delete the files in bold....

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dminstm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ysbinstall.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\DOM\Local Settings\Temp\tmpA.tmp

Now run the cleanup utility and reboot/logoff when prompted.

Once done reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file to confirm what was removed and if it's clean or not. Once your clean you can enable system restore again.

I've followed the above instructions.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dminstm.exe
and
C:\Documents and Settings\DOM\Local Settings\Temp\tmpA.tmp
were not present when i was in safe mode but i have deleted
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ysbinstall.exe

However when I opened IE to post this reply the page was hijacked again by the same problem. The System32\ysbinstall.exe file has reappeared.

New HJT logfile below.

what should i try next?

Download Silent runners.Vbs http://www.silentrunners.org/
1. Make sure you have any script blocking software disabled
2. Run the program. It will take a few minutes to complete.
3. Once complete it will produce a log named “StartupPrograms” with Your user and date in the filename. Open that txt file and posts it contents in your next post

Download Find-qoologic.zip from my attachment here.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=31271&page=2
1. Unzip (It must be unzipped) the files to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the qoologic folder, run qoologic.bat from there and wait for it to finish.
3. It will take awhile so wait until the dos window disappears and disk activity stops.
4. Then open the text file it createdÂ… found here c:\log.txt and paste the contents into your next post.

Download DLLCompare http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DllCompare.exe

Please put it in a folder on the root drive (C:\)
Click the Run locate.com button
When the scan is complete click the Compare button.

It will sort through the files it found and determine which should be flagged as "No access" and display them in the lower box.
In a few minutes it will complete.
Click the button Make a Log of what was Found

Post that log.

**Note** Only if you get an error after pressing Run Locate.com:
Copy autoexec.nt from c:\windows\repair\ folder to c:\windows\system32\ folder..

Open hijackthis...click...config..misctools. Check the 2 boxÂ’s next to "Generate Startup List" and then click "Generate Startup List". Post that log in your next post.

Post all those logs.

thanks again...

Sorry for the delay.

My PSU blew last night before i had a chance to download TDS-3!.

It may be a while before I get it sorted so I'll repost once i'm up and running again.

Thanks for all your help up to this point.

Hi

Just got round to replacing my Power Supply.

I've carried out the TDS download, update and scan. I've deleted
some of the positive identifications but wasn't able to delete one of them -
Positive identification (DLL): Trojan.Win32.StartPage.rg (dll)
File: c:\windows\system32\snim.dll
What should i do about this one?

Ive posted a logfile of the scan results showing all files and showing which ones were deleted. Should I delete anything else? Theres a few other positive ID's but they don't specifically state if they are trojans in the filename.

Thanks, and I hope it's ok to repost on this thread even though its a bit old.
