Hello, as of recently I have noticed major problems with IE. I have switched to mozilla firefox, however it doesnt allow me to go to a few sites I need to view (real estate and such). As of lately, my about:blank homepage has gotten a "ÿ" symbol on it. I think its attibuted from spyware or adware, however I ran spybot SD and it came up with nothing. I have also run norton antivirus an Ad-Aware. All to no avail. It still remains and closes randomly when I am viewing websites. When it actually works, it is very slow and then just closes. So in a matter of 5 minutes it closes maybe 5 times and takes a long time to load the pages. I have attached a hijackthis log fille so maybe you can help. My email is flyinonice@yahoo.com
Thanks for Your time
John

Hi and Welcome to TF

Be advised those automatic HJT log readers are worthless on infections as they can't see the entrys that need removed and just do a general cleaning.

Please DISABLE spybot's teatimer and LEAVE IT OFF until the fix is complete!

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible.
Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure itÂ’s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then back on to remove the infection from the restore folder and create a clean restore point.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove Viewpoint.

Go to Start->Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok

Scroll down and find the service called: NTBOOTMGR (NTBOOT)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Repeat that same procedure for the following services..

NTLOAD
NTSVCMGR

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one IF they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntuser.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntsrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\driver\csrss.exe
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - (no file)

O23 - Service: NTLOAD - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntsrv.exe
O23 - Service: NTSVCMGR - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntsrv.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders in RED (delete folders if no filename is specified or if they are highlighted in RED) according to their directory (If you can't find them...do a search for themÂ…make sure you have search hidden files, folders, sub directoryÂ’s ect enabled if it applyÂ’s to your OS)

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntuser.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DRIVER\ntsrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\driver\csrss.exe
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qlink32.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\shse.exe

Reboot back to normal windows...

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Once it has finished save the activescan log. Then post that log in your next post along with a new hijackthis log.
