First remove those. 2nd run the Norton removal tool and get rid of that junk. Get AVG or Avast.

3rd get Vista SP1.

When I click the "Fix Checked" button in HT, I get this message:

When I click the "ok" button on this window, it clears the HT window and when I scan over, all the entries I tried to delete are still there.

I do have Spy Hunter programs running. If I shut it down, the malware (?) I have will keep doing it's thing.

I should have given afew symptoms:
1. links in google bring me to incorrect webpages
2. cannot open Outlook express .. get a couple of message windows that I can post if it will help.
3. Task manager greyed out until I stopped a process using HT
Lots of different warnings from the taskbar about being spyware infected and bring me to a website advertising SpyMaxx and another Spyware program to buy which I am assuming are bogus.
4.Tells me I don't have admin priviledges to do certain things when this is a standalone and I am the admin.

If I close Spy hunter, the "whatever it is" starts doing it's thing with the warnings and hijackings and such.

What other information do you need to please help me!!!!

I ran CW shredder: it removed

CWS.Smartsearch &
CWS.Smartfinder

It found nothing else.

I will run Combo Fix shortly as I am at work.
The bleepingcomputer.com instructions says to boot into the Vista recovery Environment with the vista CD and gives instructions for XP if one doesn't have the disk, but nothing is said about Vista without a disk. Can you clarify this for me?

It's no problem about that. It is just the users choice to do this, and I don't usually go ahead to install it on computers anyways. Only if I am doing things that mess around fully with the boot environment, or etc do I do that. Just skip it and go ahead with the running of ComboFix.

When I try to follow the link to combo fix, the virus/malware blocks the website. I tried downloading it to a jumpdrive and transfer it to the infected computer, but when I double click it, it I see the working icon for a second and then nothing happens. I've tried right clicking and run as administratot and nothing happens. What next?

Please download ComboFix on a working computer and transfer that file over to your infected computers desktop. After transferring it there, rename it:

"Combo-Fix.exe"

Then try to run it again.

I just tried downloading Combofix a few more times and can't get to the site. I also re-downloaded it to a jumpdrive and transferred it over again and same thing happens.
