Hi - I had great luck last time I did this for husbands computer. Now am trying to clean up my work computer - ran a Panda scan and got several virus messages. I think I may have cleaned it - followed all the instructions in the post and here is my log.
The only thing I am having happen right now is some issues with running live update on my computer.
I ran BitDefender and Trend Micro and there weren't any viruses found.

Here is the log:

Hi and Welcome to TF

I don't see much in this log..other then some minor cleanup items.

Please DISABLE spybot's teatimer and LEAVE IT OFF until the fix is complete!

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Download and install Cleanup but DO NOT run it yet!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
[X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Open add/remove programs and remove the folllowing IF listed.

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

Reboot back to normal mode...

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
[*] Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
[*] Click on see report. Then click Save report
Please post that log in your next reply along with a new hijackthis log.

I followed all your directions and everything worked fine, the Panda Activescan didn't find anything so I couldn't even save the log.

Here is my new HJT log:

Thanks for your help! I have one more computer to get clean, can I post that info in this same thread?

Another log

Great!

I followed all the instructions in the post, and then the instructions you gave above, so I ran Adaware with the VX2 cleaner, Spybot, CW Shredder, Cleanup with the recommended options, rebooted into safe mode and removed anything I found that I knew was wrong (like Viewpoint and Weatherbug again), then rebooted into normal and ran Panda activescan. Here is the log - two of these files, fondlewindow and killit, I did some research on and they are standard with an HP computer and supposedly not malware (my virus software finds them every time too) but no idea on the other two.

katie,

That's correct. Two of the entrys are related to HP programs and most scanners will pick them up and miss ID them. Anyway..lets deal with the other 2 entrys.

Download and install CCleaner..http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

1. Open the program and the "Cleaner" button should be active.
2. Click on "Run Cleaner"
3. Once thats done it will clean out the TEMP folder.
4. Now click on "Issues" and then "Scan for Issues"
5. Once it's done checkmark ALL it finds and click "Fix Selected Issues"
6. It will ask you if you want to back up the registry entrys it's removing so please do so. If it removes anything important..just locate the .reg file you saved...double click on it to add the entrys back.

Close the program.

Reboot into safe mode....

Open add/remove programs and remove anything that says delfin or delfinmedia player IF listed.

Recommended Protection Programs

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
  • WinPatrol to monitor any changes that programs make to the registry.

If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use:

In todayÂ’s world you MUST have an Antivirus program. If you do not have one, here are 3 FREE ones available for personal use:

In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles
Please stay safe out there and take the helpful advice thatÂ’s been given. The goal here is to prevent the adware/spyware/virus/worms from getting on the system in the first place.

Ok - so shouldn't be worried about the adware/downloadware entry in the panda scan? also, right after I did the scan I got an email from Panda software saying I had 33 viruses...

1. No..it's just a leftover old entry. No files for it.

2. Panda doesn't send email's notifying you that you have a virus. Your last log from Panda contained no entrys..other then that registry entry.

If your still worried...try this scanner...

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with

Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    • Standard
    • Scan Options:
    • Scan Archives
      Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
    • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Take note the names and locations of any file it detects but fails to clean.

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
