We continue,

1. Please download AproposFix from here and save it to the R desktop via the flash

• Click the AproposFix.exefile on your desktop
• It will create a new folder on your desktop called AproposFix
• Do not run it yet

2. On the R machine click Start then Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. When the list has populated locate and remove any of the following programs that you see there. Do not worry if they are not there

• Bullseye Network
• Cashback by Bargain Buddy
• IE Host R3
• MyWebSearch
• Navisearch
• VBundleOuterDL

3. I now need you to ensure that any hidden and system files are visible to the system.

• Select the Start button and from the available options
• Right-click the My Computer option.
• Select Explore from the drop-down menu
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. from the new window
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders by clicking in the check-box to its left
• Remove the check against Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option, again by clicking the check-box to its left.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.
• Windows does not search for hidden or system files by default so
  * - Click the Start button and select Search choosing For Files or Folders
  * - From the dialogue box select All files and folders and at the bottom select More Advanced Options
  * - Place selection ticks in the check-boxes for
  - - - - Search system folders
  - - - - Search hidden files and folders
  - - - - Search subfolders
• Close the search dialogue box

4. Do another cold boot (10 seconds power-off) into Safe mode.

• Open the Apropos folder on your desktop and click RunThis.Bat
• Follow the prompts
• When complete there will be an additional file called Log.txt in the folder, post that with you reply

5. Now Download l2mfix from here or here and save it to your desktop

• Click to open the l2mfix.exe file on your desktop.
• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts
• Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Click to open and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. Do not select any other options until advised to do so
• This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening,
• After a minute or so, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread

6. Please forward

• The l2mfix log
• The Apropos - Log.txt.
• A new HJT log

Had a prob. w/ Apropos, I got the following error, but it ran after I hit ignore or close, can't remember which. "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem: C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Still won't boot in normal mode, just safe mode.

1. If you are using Windows XP Professional on your R machine then Click here to download a file to your desktop called XPProfiles.exe. If it is XP Home then Click Here to download XPHomefiles.exe

2.Transfer the downloaded file to the R machine and on the R machine

• Click to open the appropriate file and select the Unzip button
• Open the l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Click to open l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
• This will scan your computer as before.
• After a minute or so, notepad will open with a log.
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread

3. Rerun the Apropos fix.

• Open the Apropos folder on your desktop and click RunThis.Bat
• Follow the prompts
• When complete there will be an additional file called Log.txt in the folder, post that with you reply

4. Please forward

• The l2mfix log
• The Apropos - Log.txt.
• A new HJT log

1. On the R machine click Start then Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs. When the list has populated locate and remove any of the following programs that you see there. Do not worry if they are not there

2. With all other windows closed, start your HijackThis and click on Scan

• Still in HighjackThis,

  * - In the dialogue box that opens enter greenstdSystem32 in the slot and click OK.
• Reboot

3. Please ensure that you still have hidden files showing , if unsure check back 2 posts to step 3

4. Navigate to the following directories and delete the emboldened sub-directory with its entire content, if they still exist.
WARNING – Delete only the sub-directory that is emboldened
Example: In the first entry, navigate to C:\Program Files, find and delete the 3068stzh sub-directory
Folders to delete:

• C:\Program Files\3o68stzh
• C:\Program Files\ AWS
• C:\Program Files\Media Access
• C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ Viewpoint Media Player

5. Do a search for a folder called MyWebSearch, if found, delete the folder and any remaining contents

6. Navigate to the following directories and delete the emboldened files contained therein

• C:\WINDOWS\ dulcfej.exe
• C:\WINDOWS\ GKYRDLL.EXE
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\ greenstd.exe

• C:\WINDOWS\system32\ redistributor.exe

7. Do a search for the following files, delete if found

• lex0enu.exe
• lofxd.exe
• pcs_0015.exe
• aun_0027.exe
• AUNPS2.DLL
• grinstall_vrmedia.cab I may have the grinstall bit wrong, if not found try just the vrmedia.cab element
• adwerkz.cab

8. Once complete please reboot (to normal please )

• Please post a new HJT log
• Updated advice how the computer is behaving

The PCs running GREAT! I did some research on the power save mode and apparently its the laptop monitor. I swapped monitors and it boots fine now. Not sure what's wrong w/ the laptop monitor though, I'll call dell. What should I do w/ all the programs I put on, delete them? Can I now hide the hidden files? Thanks again for all the help!!!

BTW - I have a program on my laptop called Wextech Answerworks. Any idea what this is? I tried researching it, but can't find out much about it. Do I need it or can I uninstall it?
