Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. Also, Please READ carefully :)

*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*

Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files" option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside “Hide file extensions for known file types”.

*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*

HIJACK THIS IN TEMP FOLDER

You are running Hijack This from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT , or another name of your choice. Then move HijackThis.exe to this new folder.

CWSHREDDER

Download CWShredder and run it. Click Check for Update. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and then click OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*

Uninstall the following programs (if they exist) through Add/Remove Programs:

Viewpoint Media Player
Viewpoint
MyWebSearch

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check and fix the following if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...tml?p=ZJfox000

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:

Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files (if present)
  • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click on the Temporary Files tab and uncheck the box for Scan drives for files matching if it's checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program and reboot when prompted.

*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis Log file so we can make sure it's clean.

Um... I tried to get online this morning, and my internet connection is lost now. I don't remember touching anything in the hijackthis program, but I might have on accident while getting more details on particular things. Does anything stand out as a possible reason for the internet connection being knocked out ?

Okay it seems that you might have deleted a vital entry in the hijackthis screen. I would like you to open the hijackthis program and go to Misc. Tools Section. Then I would like you to click on the backup tab, Please Respond with what lies inside that tabs box, Thank You :)

Will do one I get back home. If I did delete somethong on accident, I can click something to put it all back the way it was right ?

Yes we will be able to fix it if you had deleted and if its not in backups I can start hardware/software troubleshooting as my first field was hardware software repair but then I went for my security training :)

Techpro, probably a good idea to move this topic. I did a restore backup last night and it didn't help at all. The cable modem isn't lighting up, and after running a diagnostic check on it, it kicks back saying no network adaptor found. I know the network card is there and the light works on the back of the pc but it's not being recognized by the modem. When i check the IP address only 2 of the 4 lines have an address and when I release/renew the renew will not work, kicks back with an error. I did this in msdos with the ipconfig stuff.

Verizon hooked this crap up and I dont want to have them come out to fix there crap, it costs a lot each time they even come in and dont fix anything. I have a feeling I did something when deleting programs, i must have deleted the verizon modem stuff.

I am very sorry this has happened to you and yes you should post up a topic in the networking forum. I am sorry, the hijackthis tool is very powerful and deleting certain good values can delete your internet connection. Please go ahead over to their forum and come back when it is fixed. :)

Warez Monster, I will try to download it and transfer the file to the pc using my brother in laws usb device.

I only touched 7 items it said in the backup which I put back anyways. They were aol and things like that, including the one you mention in your post. I did a lot of uninstalling with the add/remove hardware though. I know it was me that did it, just don't know with what yet.
