Sony Xperia P screen flickering / low brightness / touch screen not responding

Hey guys, this is my first post here so if I do something wrong, I apologise.

My sony xperia p (which I have had for 2 years) has decided to pack up.

Although the rest of the phone seems to work fine (apart from the audio jack which has its own problems, I'm not overly bothered about that, but I thought I'd mentioned it in case it was relevant).

The screen is flickering with horizontal lines of pixels being completely blacked out, and with the overall brightness being increased. The touch screen is also not responsive at all when this is the case.

The phone still charges, receives text messages and makes the appropriate sounds to notify me of such, however is completely not usable.

I got a bit carried away and took the back off, then realised I have no idea what I'm looking for, so resorted to here xD.

Have you tried just doing a factory reset on it?

If you have, and it still does it after being wiped from the reset, then I'd say it's a hardware issue; either a connection issue between the digitizer/screen and the board or an issue with the actual LCD screen or digitizer.
