Samsung galaxy s5 or iPhone 5?

iPhone - user friendly, never crashes.

iPhone for the win

Neither does my HTC One ;).

I've had to fix both Androids and iPhones - you just aren't able to do much yourself besides factory resetting an iPhone though. But yes, they do indeed "crash" and malfunction; so I wouldn't say never.

Crashes? It's been years since I've had a phone crash on me. Probably my Galaxy S1.

I consider "crash" a blanket statement more than anything; anything from the phone rebooting by itself when an OS process messes up, a bootloop issue, factory reset, or even a full on hard-brick.

That's mainly because on the first few boots the system is initializing all of its libraries and behind the scenes stuff..it is Linux based after all. Plus Samsung phones have junk TouchWiz on top and embedded in the OS. Check out a pure stock AOSP or Google Play Edition phone and there will be less issues because a custom UI isn't tied into the OS so deeply.
