[iPhone] Just formated my PC, where my iPhone Apps go?

A few weeks ago, I formated my PC.

Since then I got my iPhone working again. However the problem that I have noticed is that some of the apps that I have actually paid money for are no longer on my phone. Not are they showing up in iTunes.

How do I go about getting these apps back. After all, I have paid for them?
How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
Where does iTunes hide my apps on my computer and all my back ups of my iPhone?

Spoke with Apple Tech Support.

I can re-download these apps via the apps store and not get charged for it. As for my local location for these apps, they are in C:/users/[username]/music/itunes/

Also a nice thing to note, with apps like RJDJ, if you sync with iTunes and format your phone, when you sync back and your extra purchased items from within the app aren't there, you can still download them since it's keyed to your iTunes account.
