ASMO Charger is the world's first fully energy efficient mobile device charger: You can leave it on stand by mode while it consumes 0 watts/h. My mum has a charger that turns itself off when not in use, this is hardly the first of its kind.

Edit: Ah, looking at the actual kickstarter page, this does work differently to the ones I've seen before.
