Verizon Successfully Makes 4G/LTE Calls
Verizon today successfully completed field testing of data calls over their 4G/LTE network, a competitor to Sprint/Clearwire/Intel-backed WiMAX. Other companies backing 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) include Samsung, LG, Nokie, Ericsson, and Alcatel-Lucent. The stakes are huge and with WiMax already rolling-out to a few markets, the 4G/LTE camp will certainly pull out all the stops to get their network up and going sooner, rather than later.

Verizon hopes launch LTE 4G networks in 30 markets in 2010, which would cover 100 million people, before rolling out nationwide coverage in 2013. The trails are expected to help Verizon and its partners better understand how to prepare cell sites and add the new technology to its network.
