I'm waiting on the 4890 to drop :p. Or if it doesn't maybe the 4850 will and I can just crossfire em. Cause right now (and probably for a while) $300 or $400 is wayyy to much for a card lol.

I was expecting it to perform a little better than what I've read. Maybe they'll kick it into gear with a newer driver.

The way I see it, is how could it preform any better? Benches don't really do anything useful, other then to prove who has the best stuff. Long as it plays games with everything cranked up its good. Heck my 4850 does that pretty darn well at 1280x1024....

Wait for the HD 5850? I assume it'll perform on the HD 4870X2 level.

Still $300 CAD. 4850's should be under $100 around xmas and 4890s around 180 hopefully. Might convince my friend with a bunch of money to buy a 5870 and sell me his 4890 for cheap :D.

That was a "simulated 5850". They downclocked it and disabled some SPs...it should give a rough indication of how it will perform but the 5850 also has 8 less TMUs which will realize a small performance loss.

The Inquirer said both the 5870 and 5850 were released. Of course, it is the INQ so you have to take it with a grain of salt. They were right on the price, though.
These cards are set to replace the aging ATI 4850 and 4870 cards on the market and will start shipping at $299 and $399, respectively.
