MSI to release 1792mb gtx260

The card, dubbed MSI N260GTX Lightning, will pack 1792MB of memory, as the GTX 295 does, and will be manufactured on a red PCB with dual-slot cooling, dual fans, and five heatpipes. The card also features an 8 + 2 phase power design, including capacitors that support temperatures up to 125C with an advertised lifetime of 5000 hours.

not sure if that is overkill really, i mean i dont think adding that extra ram in there is gonna help it perform @ gtx 280 levels at the average res.

hey, i guess they are doing this for marketing, people who do not know any better, will buy this just because it has 1792mb ram!, and then run it on their 17" crt monitor

This amount of memory is good if you are playing GTA 4, because it is memory-hungry game

But in other games I doubt that you will notice any difference

5000 hours isnt that around 6-7 months? is that total lifetime of the card or you can run it on 125C continous 5000 hours ?

The GeForce GTX 280 contains 240 streaming processors and 32 ROPs. The streaming processors are clocked by default at 1.296GHz, while the rest of the GPU is clocked to 602MHz. The GTX 280 boasts a 512-bit wide memory bus, sporting good old GDDR3 memory clocked at 2.214GHz, resulting in a massive 141GB per second of memory bandwidth.


The GeForce GTX 260 GPU consists of 192 streaming processors and 28 ROPs. On this GPU, the streaming processors have a reference clock speed of 1.242GHz, and the ROPs and other parts of the GPU are rated at 576MHz. The GTX 260 has a memory 448-bit memory bus with 896MB of GDDR3 memory running at 1.998GHz. That configuration allows for 111GB of data per second to pass through the memory subsystem.

I'd get a 280 or a 295 before i would get a 260 with more Ram and 125c is nuts. who the **** runs a card at 125c. running full load this 260 i have never exceeded 60-65c

The card wont run at 125C, especially with that cooler.

Theyre just stating the specifications of the caps.
