Qualcomm is planning to launch a mobile-TV-via-cellphone service via CDMA carriers over the UHF frequency. each compatable phone will have a new CDMA/UHF chip by qualcomm, the inventors of CDMA.
A couple of problems though with the technology to be:
a) imagine the accidents caused by cellphones today? Sure...it may be made illegal somehow, but will that stop people from watching a bit during a red light, when they really should be alert as to the fast change of traffic lights?
b) Cellphones at their current sizes won't be so great for viewing...screens would have to get larger, increasing the sizes that we enjoy our phones at...meaning I don't think this would come into the mainstream of cellphone technology...but as a sort of alternative device.
And...would they find a way to charge us for the minutes of TV we watch?
Actually, coincidentally, PC World (mag) just released results of a poll by 1361 cell phone users, 86% of whom said they were less than somewhat interested.
