tshhh, I'm not getting a new rig for a loooooooonnnnnggg time, maybe when the 5870X4 comes out

this thing already rips apart anything I pretty much throw at it, even Crysis when configured right

If I do get one, I'm just being greedy. Like with Merk, my rig tears everything a new ******* as it is. Grrrr. I have an XFX 780i mobo, and I'm not about to let it sit there and go ATI and NOT use SLI. I'd sell her and throw down on a X48.

Like what was said earlier, we'll see how these things perform. If they do as well as I think and hope for, I'll be picking up a 4870X2. Then again, if they're like the 3870X2's are and have some fps problems here and there, I may not.

they're also going to be clocked at around 1050MHZ stock, compared to 3870's at 777MHZ (G92 shaders run at something like 1500-1600MHZ - some multiple of the core speed)

just going by the numbers, the 4870's should theoretically be a bit more than twice as fast as 3870's
(1050/777)*(480/320) = 2.027027027....

looking forward to good competition between Nvidia and ATI GPU's...
just like old times....

Actually the core speed will be around 850mhz, its the shader speed that is clocked to 1+ghz.

I'm hoping these clock as well as the 38xx series... :)

Anyway the 4870 is supposed to have just a hair over 1 teraflop of performance, which is just a hair more than twice as fast as the 3870 :) I'm pretty stoked to see how they perform

Double shader power will not give you double performance in gaming, not at all. Compare 9600GT to 9800GTX. Is 9800GTX twice as fast as 9600GT. The answer is no. It is just about 30-35% faster, even though 9800GTX has twice as much stream processors and twice the TMU. Thats because the 16 ROPs and low memory bandwidth that 9800GTX have is putting it down

The HD4xxx still have 16 ROPs, just like the older HD38xx. So, I think the low ROPs will put HD4xxx down, even though the shading power have improved a lot.
