Hopefully things start to straighten up soon. Now I'm considering a 4890 (less than $200), but dx11 sounds so appealing...

I would probably get the 5850 or 5870 if I got a 5000 series card, I guess I'm just getting impatient (4890 has 256 bit instead of 128 too).

I just don't want to get a dx10(.1) card and have dx11 become dominant in the next year. But the price and performance of a 4890 (especially over clocked, 285 competition?) seems pretty good to me now. Think I'm confusing myself.

5770s in CF rival a 5870 some of the time though :)

This is true. But most people would buy the 5770 for it's price. Buying 2 is still expensive. And if I had to choose between 1 5870 and 2 5770s I would go with the 5870. For the same cost and performance one card is preferable. It's less hassle and takes up less space.

^ the real bang for your buck is the 5850. but they are no where to be found :(

I would not recommend a 5770. the 4870 is 10% most of the time, and can be had for a little less moolah. for a card with the 5770s performance DX11 would be a nightmare anyways. Just as DX10 was on the first Dx10 cards. If you want DX11 get a 5870 and do it right.

but the drivers are still immature. so with future driver releases i'm sure they will help to close the gap between it and the 4870. also the 5770 does run cooler and uses less power than a 4870.

Is there any sort of timeline at all for when the supplies will start increasing? It's like you have to wait on a site until they are stocked then quick order them right away, it's almost like how ebay is :(.

^ i dont think so. just cruse the news sites and wait for them to start saying the yeilds are getting better. i.e over 80%.
