Diskeeper to Launch File System Driver That Stops Fragmentation
PCMagazine has an article about Diskeeper's upcoming file system driver that is supposed to eliminate most file fragmentation before it occurs. There are details such as what OS and file systems are supported, though pricing and release date was not available. If this isn't more vaporware, it would be a very nice thing to have.

But the filter driver is designed to weed out about 75 percent of fragmentation before it ever occurs, by intercepting the data before it is written to the file system, and organizing it appropriately. "It will be a green technology, in the sense that it will minimize the amount of [disk] activity in terms of defrag operations... including use of the drive, power, and wear and tear," Materie said.
