Apple v Google v Microsoft

Ive leaned more towards apple products, especially being a programmer, using all the OS's could really help, however I have this need to tinker with things, and I thought Android/Linux would be the way to go...but it looks like Ubuntu isnt quite there for everyday needs,

Does anyone have any experience with Ubuntu? What problems do you come accross?

I use Mint for most of my daily internet/music tasks and have had no issues. Before that I used Ubuntu in a VM for months for the same reason, and again no issues.

I use Android TV rather than Apple TV though have a Macbook Air, iTouch, Samsung Galaxy 3 phone and Android Asus tablet.
