Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
•PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
•128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
•1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
•Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
•CD-ROM or DVD drive
•Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

The Major and I were Talking about XP and how he said he got it to run on some crazy stuff.

He proved it can run @ 233mhz with 256mb Memory.

He also added , but didint prove it can run @ 133mhz with 64mb memory.

I dont think this is possible, yet i belive strongly in the Major :)

What do you all think?

We have a computer donated to us where I work. I believe it's a 233mhz CPU, with 64mb of RAM. XP is untweaked so it's uber slow.

The CPU has to support certain instruction sets. The P133 and P200 should be the same afaik, so it should run on a 133. Only question is: does XP have a minimum CPU speed requirement? I don't think so, otherwise they would probably have listed it on the MS website. They only show the minimum RAM requirement, wich is 64MB. For 2k it's 32MB, for 2k3 it's 128MB.

Why bother with running it slowly?

Why not use an older operating system, or a Linux distribution like Vector designed to run fast on older systems like that?

Actualy XP detects the speed of your processor and if you have anything slower than a 233 it will not install. Also Windows ME has a requirement of 150mhz or higher and will not install on anything slower. I would know because as soon as XP came out we "attained" a copy and i tried to install it on my 200mhz at the time. My dad was chuggin along on a 366 but it was REAL slow. Those where back in the day of course and i would never try to run XP on a processor like that.

I've installed Xp like 300 times on my 200MHz CPU. That was before I overclocked it to 225. Both are below 233 MHz.
