What You've Just Bought!

Re: The What You've just Bought thread!

Heck I may buy a 780 instead then.
My main issue now is buy a 27 inch monitor and hope my 460s will run it (lol) or go ahead and stick with my 24 (that I love) and drop the 500 for a 780. I really don't want to go sli if I don't have to.

Amen, after having crossfire for a long while, I'd prefer to be back to just one card.

Today I bought a Logitech F710(for steam big picture)
2 Lexar thumb drives for OS installs
and an audio extension cable so i can use my microphone on my headset again lol

Your 460s are going to struggle with 1080p and the 770 will struggle with 1440p.

Re: The What You've just Bought thread!

They do ok @ 1920x1200 or 1080p, bf3 high/ultra pulls avg of ~50 on full 64 player maps, BUT afterburner reports only 75-80% usage which the 4670k will rectify.
Bf4 was pretty crappy, ~30 or so avg high settings, which the 4670k should also help with tremendously.
Basically I am gonna run the 460s with the 4670k and see how my fps improves. Then I will decide wether to go with a new card (and which one...like the price of the 770 but also like having a flagship card with the 780), or a new monitor first. I know ny 460s will choke on 1440p that's not even a question. But 500+ on a gpu makes me cringe.
Of course, I would have to spend more than 500 on sli 770 unless I scored a good eBay deal, and I woukd also be locked into sli again. Although, I have been EXTREMELY happy with the performance and scaling of my 460s. Just don't know if I want to go that route with 770s.
As far as what is more important...or what I "need" more lol, gpu is definitely priority over monitor. I just love the fact that I can get a 27" 1440p monitor for 370 bucks and I am really chomping at the bit to pounce on one.

Well something to think about is I speak from experience with what you're dealing with. I've had SLI 465s before and both that and SLI 460s are about the performance I get with my 580. I have a 3960x, so CPU isn't a problem but in BF4 high/ultra with my 580 OCd at 1920x1200 I tend to dip pretty low so I have to turn it down.

For the 1440p res you need to look at higher end cards. A 770 is the exact same thing as a 680 where as the 780 is a GK110 chip and is pretty far above a 770/680. IMO I would seriously consider the R9 290 even over a 780. Just wait for them to be back in stock so the price goes back to 400 bucks. You'll get higher than 780 performance for less price.

Re: The What You've just Bought thread!

I'd like a 780Ti but the fact I am playing <1hour of games a month at the moment determines that would be a pointless investment.
