Tyan MB--->quad with 4 opteron 800 series CPU's
8GB of DDR to start with
2 monster 320GB drives
1 speedy DVDROM
1 52x CDRW drive
gigabit net connection
2 Geforce 6800 ultra PCI-X vid cards
2 19" high quality LCD monitors
monster powersupply from hell
custom acyrilic and aluminum case
OS=linux from scratch will all the video tools I use now with a kernel support for SMP

I figure that would solve any issues I have with CPU power or thruput these days

Well, i am currently waiting for some of AMD DUAL CORE CPUs to be release in the 2nd half of this year, and I will let you know then.

hey horndude me and nubius already talked abou tthat board. Ok the 32 gig of DDR is split between the 4 cpus, and w/ a lil more research you have to have all registered ram and you have to have all 32 gig for it to be effective. now on the video cards. there is only ONE pci-x slot on there that is 128-bit. and then of course one that is 64-bit (pci-x). me and nubius have already discussed the PCI-X problem as there are no video cards that are made for pci-x. What you are looking for is pci-express or pci-e (16x). pci-e and pci-x is totally diff man. And BTW even if there where video cards that supported pci-x, you would have to have 2 identical slots (which this board does not) and a chipset that supports it. BTW this is only for educatiuonal purposes and not a flame.
