They only bloom once in the spring and then you'll have 1000's of dead flower petals all over the place. It can be messy and You'll have to rake them up. Not sure how a Tulip Magnolia will do in the south, I imagine it would have a longer bloom time where it's warmer in the winter/spring. They are nice in April/May around this part of the country
