Using microphone input as radio receiver?

I was just looking at my microphone input on my laptop, and I thought, would it be possible to catch radio signal using just that port and some clever programming?

I mean, the microphone input is basically just an A/D converter. By attaching an antenna, one should be able to do this.

Is this totally stupid? or could I be on to something?
